it's a safe bet that if you were raised as a jw, or if you came into it early in life, you have some strange ideas about money and finances.
the wt for decades made even minimal post-secondary education utterly taboo and only recently has capitulated that "some" extra schooling might be neccessary (associate degrees good, bachelors degrees bad).
the average youth raised a jw has little understanding of investment due to the apocalyptic worldview of the organization (why invest in a dying system when the big "a" is right around the corner?).
many good posts here and I ditto all of them.....
also add that our life will ultimately be what we make of it. If you want something; work for it and you will recieve it. The old adage of "Jehovah will provide" just will not cut it in the real world.

i was reading an earlier post from people who are still jw's and are basically trapped in their life as they have it now; it got my own mind turning and finding out the exact moment when i decided i was leaving.
quick backstory: mom is a jw, dad is a well known apostate (when i was an adolecent and questioning things he asked me if i wanted to speak to ray franz, i kid not he had his number), lucky me my sister and i were given into my mother's custody.
so in my musings i realized my whole life was somewhat of a dichotomy, i remember my first christmas going to my dad's house and on my christmas list were bible toys of david, and samson.

when we witness to witnesses, what is the most important thing we should talk to them about first - flawed doctrine, or watchtower misdeeds such as the un, child molestation, etc.?

I was one of them and know how they are taught and think ( as do many here). These people really believe that the "Only True God" is in their pocket, there can be no way but the one they are professing.

my good friend, colleague, fellow teacher and beer drinking buddy wayne myers died of cancer last week.
he died of chemo poisoning before the cancer could kill him.
he taught biology and was from kansas.

I suggest that you DO NOT use a real tractor. Have someone sculpt a tractor out of Terra Cotta clay on site. This will allow the growth to actually live and grow on the clay.

it seems that jehovah's spirit disoriented organization has really made a mess with this one.

I do not understand the "mind set" of the last days scenario myself.
Although I have distanced myself from the JW beliefs and any possible influence; I do recall the "persecution complex" we all shared as Jehovahs Witnesses. There was always some kind of persecution going on of witnesses somewhere; with the threat of going global ( according to all those Awake magazines I remember reading as a kid. As a child I remember being indoctrinated to "prepare for the persecution". This is a terrible thing to teach any child.
As an outsider looking back; and hearing this comment, all I can say is " Why would the UN ban religion?" Who cares what Jehovahs Witnesses do with themselves? The truth is ---NO ONE CARES. They are of no consequence on the world stage.
The Jehovahs Witnesses are just another middle tier religion, like so many others in a free society.
And now a rumor of the UN banning religion? This is nonsense.
JWs are allowed to preach freely in the USA,( just like AVON) and elsewhere from what I can see. They are no more annoying than any other door to door salesman.
And they will continue to blow their trumpet about the last days; and persecution. It is, most likely, the only ploy they have got to "shake people up" ( it sure is not their people skills that attract people)
I like to think that those of us in this forum already have heard that tune.
i have been lurking on this board ever since the may 2002 broadcast of that dateline on the subject of child molestation.
that show made me realize that the wt may not be speaking for god.
well naturally i discovered the truth about the "truth" over the past 21 months.

ok, this sounds kinda stupid, but i've been thinking of it all night long at work.
almost every government and every organization that has used sheer fear to move the emotions of its followers has fell.
and well, people can only be scared and afraid for so long before they either break down into a mental illness, or walk away and say f**k it all.. me and my g/f had a little talk today.
the JWs can keep the flock scared and in place if they keep them IGNORANT and unable to help themselves. Remember the old adage " Jehovah will provide" ... yeah, right.
While the world strives to educate and promote wellbeing in the 21 century globally, JWs are the only group that discourages education of anykind ( unless it benefits them). This alone should be an eye opener to anyone interested in the faith.
remember that stupid book that they had, "young people ask, answers that work are weird?
minimus just mentioned it in a thread.... they have that young people ask section in the awake!

I do not remember this book at all.....it must have been released after 1982.
